Hope everyone had a nice happy Christmas. We got snowed in at home. These pictures are all taken with my cell phone....pretty good huh? The battery on my camera decided to die Christmas Day and I haven't gotten a new battery.

Chad opening his package with lounging pants and snuggie. The pants fit him well, but he hasn't tried on the snuggie yet.

I did get his scarf finished. He hasn't used it yet, but I did try it out when mine got all wet and icky shoveling. It works well. Now I just need to make me an extra for when I get the other all icky.

Saturday we went to Beresford to get a few supplies and came across a plow pulling another out of where it got stuck.

This is the snow drift behind our house. I bet its at least 6 ft high.

Who was it that wanted to live in the country????

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone. We had a nice day with family eating turkey and pie.

Tonight I had a few helpers with my photography....

Morris has officially become an indoor/outdoor kitty....

We lost Houdini a few weeks ago so we only have Morris for right now and that is part of the reason that she is a indoor/outdoor kitty now. Chad is the one that initiated the change. She is actually a good indoor kitty. She isn't overly cuddly which is probably why it is working. She does go outside and still catches her own gushy food (ooutside), but is inside (in the mudroom) at night.

I have been busy sewing and trying to get the inside of the house more organized. I took some photos of new items this evening and hope to get them edited and up tomorrow or Saturday.

This morning we found Bootsie dead.

Yesterday he wasn't around all day. We looked for him, but he didn't come when we called and we didn't hear him meowing.

We buried him out towards the back of the property.

Fine Dining????

Saturday night after working all day at the fiber festival, Meghan and I decided we wanted to go out to eat and be served our food. We were both tired and dehydrated.

We decided to go to Applebees. Applebees is such a large chain that I figured it would be good service and good meals. But not so much of either.

When we got to Applebees,it was busy but they seated us immediately. It took a few minutes before the waitress took our drink order. Megs ordered a pop and water and requested a pitcher of water. I ordered some mixed drink and water with lemon. Nothing was said that we couldn't have a water pitcher on the table.

Well my mixed drink came in just a couple of minutes, but we had to wait for the water and pitcher for about 8-10 minutes. I understand they were busy, but you would think they could bring us water.

They did deliver the water, pitcher and pop finally. About that time I went to use the restroom.
When I got back I could tell Meghan wasn't happy about something....they took the water pitcher away. Meghan told me a different waitress came, lectured her about the fact that we can't have a pitcher of water on the table and took it away...... she lectured a customer! What kind of customer service is that?

Our waitress stopped by again and apologized, she said she didn't know pitchers couldn't be left on the tables.

Well finally our food arrived. Megs had ordered some hamburger with no pink in the middle. I ordered a rare steak. Meghans hamburger was pink. Meghan said she would still eat it. But then I cut into my steak and it was hardly pink, so we sent both back.

Not long after the shift manager stopped by as we had had so many problems with things. He applogized for the meals and the water problem. I explained to him that I wasn't really that concerned about the meals, those things happen, and that if they had allowed us to have the water pitcher, I probably wouldn't have complained about the meals. He told us that the Applebees policy is to not leave pitchers of water on the tables, they want to promote a more 'fine dining' atmosphere than a 'diner' atmosphere. I again stated that the customers had requested it and it was pretty poor customer service to ignore our request.

We received our recooked meals. My steak was still more medium rare than rare. I think Meghans meal was fine.

Meghan timed how long it took us to get water and pop refills and it took about 5 minutes....and that was 5 minutes when Meghans glass was empty except for a little ice.

After we finished our meal, we recieved our bill. I was quite amazed that they still charged us full price for everything. We weren't looking for a discount or a free meal, but to see everything that they screwed up in our meal experience, you would think they would do a little more than, 'We're sorry.' I also never asked for a discount or free meal from them, but I would expect a little more from a 'fine dining restraunt.'

After we left we were talking and we wondered what they would have done if we had ordered a pitcher of beer? I really doubt they would have refused to serve us a pitcher of beer. But then again they are fine dining.

I have dined at many places that I would consider fine dining and I don't recall having ever asked, but I bet if asked they would have provide some type of pitcher of water. I doubt it would be in a plastic pitcher, more likely a carafe or some stately pitcher of water.

Fine dining my a**!

So the next time you want a 'fine dining' experience, just go down to your local applebees, but make sure you don't ask for a pitcher of water!

I had a little car trouble while there....my alternator decided it should die just to make the weekend memorable. Chad came up and towed it home, what a sweetie. We took it to Sears and they had it fixed by 10 on monday morning.

Sheep Shearing at NCFF

I've never gotten to see a sheep sheared in real life, so while at the North Country Fiber Festival I watched the demonstration....

My leaning tree.

The brown trim is what was on the whole house before. The white is the new trim. We have 8 windows done. The rest won't probably be done until spring.

It looks so much better now. The pictures definately don't do it justice.

Last weekend I picked out 2 more Kitties. One that looks like Morris, but she is a girl, so she was named Morris by Chad. And the other kitty is Boots, he is black with 4 white 'boots'. I am complaining because these were all supposed to be my kitties (Chad is allergic) and guess who hasn't gotten to name ANY of the Kittens???

If you guessed me, your right. So I want to get one more kitten, preferrably a female kitten. I still need to take morris and boots to the vet, but I don't think it will happen in the next 2 weeks. I plan to take them to the vet in Beresford to try it out there. I like the vet I use in Tea, but it is a pain to have to drive so far for appointments. And I will need to find a large animal vet if I plan to have livestock next year.

We have had several things happen lately, the water heater died (we fixed it), we got the outside water faucets installed and working, we are still working on the faucet by the old barn floor. We haven't gotten alot done in the house but have made some progress.

I and Meghan are going to have a booth at the Fiber Fair in Watertown on the 19th and 20th, wish us luck! Stop by and say hi if your there.

I haven't gotten my etsy or artfire back up and running yet as I just haven't had alot of time for photographing and listing and that stuff. Hopefully I can do that soon.

With the shortening days, I will have more inside time to do indoor things and will have to worry less about the mowing and the thistles and all that stuff.

Lost in the Country

I haven't gotten lost in the thistles, we actually cut them all down now. It's amazing how much bigger this place looks without the thistles and tall grass.

Last weekend I took the kitties and Ladie in for their shots. I knew that Flash was sick before I took him in, but I never imagined what I found out. He had Feline Lukemia!!! Luckily Houdini tested negative and we started him on the vaccinations for it right away. But poor Flash had to be put to sleep....he was such a good kitty, even as he was loosing so much weight, he would still always come and sit on your lap and pur pur pur. Houdini has been lonely since then, he follows me pretty much everywhere I go outside. I'm sure we make an interesting sight, it is usually me, Ladie, Diesel and then Houdini bringing up the rear.

Houdini has caught one mouse already and was having a blast playing with it until Diesel stole it and tried to eat it....think mouse tail and back legs hanging out of dog mouth....yum yum!

Oh and Houdini is a boy....figured that out before we went to the vet....oh well.

We have been super busy with outside and inside things. Dad has been working on the window and has gotten 8 done, the rest will have to wait for more money to use towards fixing them, so we plan to watch the sales for the pieces we need. Then hopefully we can get the rest fixed in the spring.

I have not had time to really start to unpack my sewing room. I did put the drawers in the sewing cabinet today and unpacked a couple of boxes, but I need a weekend to dedicate to just the sewing room. Chad keeps needing me to come help him with outside stuff and then I never get back in except for bathroom breaks and meals until almost dark and then I am exhausted. How is that for enough whining?

Well I promise pictures soon. And hopefully I can get back to talking about crafting projects more.

Houdini Kittens!!!!

Yesterday evening I picked up 2 farm kittens as we are expecting to need assistance with keeping the mice under control. One is a boy, dark grey/black and white, his name is Flash and is very tame and loveable. The second kitten is a girl and is lighter grey tabby with white, her new name (she didn't have one before) is Houdini.

Last night we had both kittens in a makeshift containment system until we can work on building our cat house this weekend. Well when Chad got home this afternoon he checked on both of them to make sure they were ok. He put them back in and went out to work on the weeds. Well I got home about 8, I went to check on the kittens and only Flash would come out. About that time Chad came home and we took apart the makeshift shelter and couldn't find Houdini. There was no way she could have gotten out of it, there were no holes big enough for her to get out. Well after looking around for about 45 minutes we start to hear a meowing in some of the long grass not too far from the house. We found little Houdini in the long grass. We rearranged the containment system, they are actually in one of Ladie's kennels right now with a peice of wood for a roof in case it rains again.

So now her name is Houdini...not sure how she did it, but at least she didn't go too far and will need to be more careful with her from now on.

I promise pictures of the kitties and the house stuff this weekend.

Sorry I've been quiet on the blog front. I've been very busy buying an acreage. This one to be specific....

It is 12.02 acres. South of Beresford about 7 miles. Just waiting on the bank to finish up the financing so we can close. We were able to get the keys and spent the weekend cleaning it up. It hasn't been lived in for a year, so there were dead flies to clean up and mouse do do.

We wiped down all the wood work, cleaned most of the windows and steam cleaned all the carpets. So as soon as we close we should be ready to just move in.

It does have a few issues that will need to be taken care of....specifically the thistle problem and there is a pretty large hole in one of the window sills and they all need to be replaced.

Thistles....have alot of these.... :0(

My 'bad' window. Thats a screwdriver stuck in there. A pretty long one. The rest of the windows are not that bad, but have potential to get worse if not taken care of.

Worm Grunters

Well I don't know why but my last post that talked about worms got quite a few views.....weird huh? So I think the same day or the day after I saw on the news about worm grunters, people who rub metal and wood together to make the worms come out of the ground http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/04/17/assignment_america/main4953135.shtml So those of you who came here for worms.....thats all I have to say about worms....oh and worms are good for the soil.

Yesterday went to Josh's 7th Birthday Party. I think the gift I got for him was a hit, it was some transformer star wars figure. It was the first toy package he opened.

First time I have been to Matt & Nik's new house....its very nice....and very large, they have 2 living rooms/dens, a dining room, unfinished basement, 4 bedrooms upstairs (1 is a master bedroom) and 3 bathrooms! I don't remember how many square feet Nik said it was, but very good sized.

Their dog, tank, is a lab/chesapeke bay retriever, he's 8 months old I think and he is taller than their full grown lab and still growing! But he is much nicer puppy than their lab ever was. Doesn't seem unrully at all.

I have been doing some spinning, have been trying to go through my stash and hoping to spin up some yarn to list on etsy or artfire. Its part of my destash plan.....I think I need a faster spinning wheel or more time....or maybe both.

I do have a lot of stitch markers in progress and some that are even ready for photography, but that whole time/motivation thing keeps getting in the way.

I am still knitting on my current pair of socks and still haven't darned my yellow random stripe socks....haven't looked for my yarn.....maybe soon.

It smells like worms

Today at work several people were commenting that they could smell the rain...and I then said it smells like worms. I associate long rains with the smell of worms.....you know when the ground gets so wet that they have to come out of the ground..... mmmmmm worms mmmmmm

Lost in the Real World

My guy visited me last week from Wednesday through Sunday. He and the monsters where caught in one picture. And the monsters were getting along at that moment.

We did alot of running around, but did get to go out to breakfast with Aime and John Saturday and met Meghan at the Dog Park Staurday Afternoon.

While we were doing errands I was able to get a bit done on my socks, they are just about to the point to turn the heel.

Chad took me shopping, he picked me out a new wireless router and now I can play on the computer from anywhere in my apartment. And we went to the mall and got me a new pair of jeans, He couldn't believe that I didn't have a pair of jeans.....they are ok, but still not my preferred thing to wear.

I have started a small flat of lettuce seeds, they are doing pretty well, once they are a little better established I will need to thin them out.

After Chad left I have been spinning and making stitch markers. I am trying to spin up some of my fiber stash and will likely list some of the handspun yarn on etsy and artfire. I just haven't felt the sewing juju yet.

I've also been pretty exhausted, I could have fell asleep at work both Monday and Tuesday. So last night (Tues) I took a nap when I got home and went to bed early. I also took about an hour nap tonight and plan to go to bed early. Although today I had a dentist appointment, so that caused me a little undue stress. But good news....no new cavities! A repreive for 6 months!!!! WOOOO HOOOOO!!!!

A sure sign of spring....and sad news

What a sure sign of spring, but daffodils and bunnies.

Well I guess that isn't a real bunny, but he's still cute.

I think my photography skills are improving.

I got the daffodils from a couple of coworkers for a special occasion. They also gave me a popcorn ball, but that was consumed already without a photo of it....sorry.

The bunny pattern is one I got in the phat fiber box in January as well as the yarn I used to knit him up. The bunny will be going to my hunny.....lol. He likes rabbits and since I'm VERY allergic, He'll have to make do with stuffed animal bunnies.

Have been busily sewing up an order of frog bags, can't wait to hear what she thinks of them when she actually sees them.

Knitting Content: Still knitting on my socks and knitting on my stash busting scarf. Someday I will take photos of those things.

Dad called today, Grandma passed away this morning at 7am ish. Haven't heard when the funeral is for sure, it will likely be Saturday or Monday. So will be taking a trip to Elk River soon.

Kidnapped!!!!!!

Ladie would like to say Hello

I was kidnapped yesterday! By Amy and Mike, they took me out to dinner with them and their kids. And then we stopped at the park and walked around a bit. It was nice escape from my apartment, but as we joked, their kidnapping skills have to be worked on. They called me and asked permission, after they picked me up they let slip where we were going. But I had alot of fun.

I've read all the Twillight books now. They sucked me in too, just like the Sookie books. I'm happy with the ending of the last book, but even though I don't think there are more books in the series, I could see how the author could bring it back. I think Edward and Bella's story is finished, they are happy at last. But Rennesme and Jacob have such potential to carry on the story, they should have their own stories and adventures.

I have been sewing, actually cutting and interfacing fabric all day, getting a custom order started and the prizes from my contest started as well.

The weather this weekend as been lovely, hopefully it is going to stay like this for awhile. Hopefully this is a sign of spring.

Its still light out!

Even though I dislike daylight savings time, I do love the fact that it is still light out at 7 pm!!! It sure is a sign that spring will come someday.

Chad is coming home the last week in March/first week in April....woohhoooo! I can't wait! We are starting to really talk about moving in together. We will probably do this the end of July. My lease ends June 30th and his ends July 31st. I can pay one month at a monthly rate. It may be hard to find a place to accept Diesel. But we'll figure it out.

Knitting content....started on a scarf for myself. My old scarf isn't quite as long as I would like it and I have some Lion Brand Jiffy yarn I got on a super sale ($0.50 each!!!!) and I have 4 of them, so that should make more than a scarf!!!

It has been one heck of a week and boy am I glad tomorrow is Friday.

The weather has been beautiful this week, but I havn't had the time to enjoy it. By the time I get home from work, I'm pretty exhausted, so a short walk for the monster and then the time escapes me until it is time for bed.

Not that I haven't gotten anything done, its just not up to my standards.

I did get my final 2 bags done, I will post those this weekend.

Chad is in Louisianna and not real happy about where he is. I keep hoping ( I know this is wrong to hope ) but hoping anyways that he gets fed up enough to ask to be brought home before he was planning. He's planning on being home the last week of March/first week of April. He won't know for sure until the week before, this works so well for my sense of patience (or lack thereof). Of course whenever he does come home, he will likely go back out over the road in a week, unless they have work locally that they Need him for...something else to hope for. ;0)

I have gotten my fingerless mitts knitted up, I just need to write the pattern and find a volunteer to knit them to make sure my pattern makes sense.

Tulip Totes

After much debate, I decided to name the totes, Tulip Totes. I really wavered between the take out tote and the tulip tote, but the tulips won out. Avlor was the first to suggest the tulip bag. The random generator choose #5, so teabird on Ravelry. I will be contacting the winners this week.

I am in the process of listing my bags, I have 2 that I need to finish the handles for, so not sure if those will get listed today.

I did decide to go with a fabric handle and it is long enough to wear it across your body or over your shoulder or with 4 straps pulled up.

I'll give a better update in a little while.

Decisions decisions....and i am soo weak willed

I just wanted to let anyone who may be watching my blog, that I have not forgotten I need to pick a name for my bag, but I am still debating in my head over 2 of the names that I like. One was very popular and the other name is more like what I thought of calling the smaller (first) design of this bag. I don't think I ever told anyone that name I was going to call it. But I did jokingly call it the ball bag and that isn't what my idea was. So while I continue to mentally debate which one I like best, I will give you a few updates.

I have been intending on every night and weekend for the last 2 weeks, to be home and sew sew sew. But what have I done? You guessed it, not sewing. This weekend I read the last of the Sookie stackhouse books (when does the next one come out?) and I was only going to read a chapter or 2 and then go sew. I am so weak willed that was Sunday about 11 am, well about 3:30 - 4 I finished reading the entire book. I liked this book, but it was almost like there was too much that happened, the war and the vamp takeover. It was almost like she needed to just record those things for something that is coming in the next book. But maybe I'm wrong. Guess I'll have to wait and see.

I have sewn some, but not the amount I had wanted to have done by now. I hope to have the new bags done and listed by March 1st. I will have at least 12 done, and hopefully more done. We'll have to see what distractions put their heads in my way.

After I get those listed I will be taking a break from sewing and the like until I get my taxes done. Not something I am looking forward too, but it has to be done.

My guy is in Texas now and will be there it sounds like until the end of March and then home (I hope, cross my fingers). But it sounds like he may go back to texas after he is home and gets his things taken care of, but he hasn't fully decided yet. But he should be at home for about a week at least. Part of it depends on the weather, if the weather is really good here, then he will probably have to stay and work around here. Anyone want to pray for spring weather with me????

Well off to ponder my decision some more. Hope you all had a Happy Monday!

New Bag Design and a CONTEST!!!!!

I have a working bag in my new design. I am working on more to make to list on my etsy and artfire sites.

I see them working for many uses, to tote your projects: knitting, crochet, spinning, cross stitch, needlepoint. To use as a purse. To carry home your groceries from the store. To bring your lunch with you to work. It would hold a snack, a magazine or book and a pair of socks that you are working on. To carry your books to school or anywhere.

They are reversible. I am still deciding what I want to do for the drawstring/handles. They do not currently have a pocket, but some of them will in the future. They will come in at least 2 sizes, probably more.

But I can't come up with a name for them.

So I am having a contest. Please comment with your suggestion for the name of the bags. The person that suggests the name that I select to use will get a free bag and I will use a random number generator to choose another person to recieve a free bag.

I will choose the name in 2 weeks on or about February 22.

Wow #2

I went to girls night last night and Aime's hubby came along, he brought this cool protto type for an electric spinning wheel. It is still pretty rough looking but its in the testing phases. It went home with Meghan for some testing out, but its so exciting to think of an electric spinning wheel for a reasonable price. I can't wait for my turn to test it out. I love my spinning wheel, but her bobbins are pretty limited in what they can hold. So when I go to ply, I can't spin off of 2 bobbins onto one because they are all the same size. Now I can spin the yarn back on itself, but I would like to be able to make larger skeins of yarn. The bobbins he brought to show us to try out are HUGE!!!! Can I say YIPPEE loud enough. I'm sure I will be posting more about this in the future.

CPSIA was imposed to decrease the amounts of lead and phalates in toys for children under 12. I have been keeping a eye on what has been happening. It would have impacted anyone that manufactures/makes toys or anything for children under 12. So would have put an undue burden on any small or homebased business. Hopefully this will allow them to stay working.

My friends at knit night said they couldn't see the pictures of the items that came with my phatfiber box. I will post better photos and my thoughts on a few of the items I received. I wish I could do them all, but there were way too many to do that.

She sent these cute stitch markers. They are all glass beads. One is a cute goldfish, a green apple and the last one had a green bead and 2 blue beads on it.

This picture really shows the cuteness of the fish stitch marker. I didn't see any more of these at her shop right now, but she has some awfully cute other items like yellow duckys, turtles, flowers and an assortment of other items.

I would have to say the stitch markers I received are well made and prices/shipping costs are reasonable. And she ships internationally.

Yoga Dog

Well on my path to losing weight, I bought a yoga and pilates workout DVD. I also picked up a yoga mat. Tonight was the first night I had a chance to try them out. Well Ladie decided to join in, by sitting on my back when I was doing something that involved laying on the floor and lifting up your head, shoulders and chest. I'm sure it would have been a cute picture.

This is the box as I opened it. It is brimming over with samples.

It had a couple cute stitch markers.

A project bag and some misc other items. It had wool balls and fragrance for knitters.

It had many samples of fiber. I loved it all. Unfortunately several of the items contain angora. I didn't ask them to not include it, so it was my fault....and I'm sure I have a few friends who could put it to good use.

These are the yarn samples. There where a ton.

The only drawback was that not all of the samples where marked with content. But I did give that feedback and I think that will change in the future.

I am working on getting my newest design put together. It is about 50% done. Can't wait to post a few pictures of it.

Time to Celebrate

I celebrated Christmas with a couple of the girls.

These cool things are from Aime. Some lovely yarns for socks, a sock knitting book, 2 dishcloths, airfresheners, chocolate, tissues and a pair of boxers for my guy. The chocolate has of course been eaten....couldn't let it get old...or something.

These are from Meghan. 2 cool frogs for my sofa. They are really cool looking, unfortunately when diesel visits I fear they may have to find a higher resting place. She also made a nice bag to carry my knitting in and some snickerdoodle coffee.

And I got to see Aime's house, it's pretty cool. Its a split level, but not your typical split level cookie cutter house. It has the dining room and kitchen (maybe more that I didn't see) on the entry level. Then you go upstairs for her sitting area, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. We didn't venture downstairs.

I have been experimenting with small notions zipped bags....

One has a zipper all around the outside and the other's zipper is only about 1/2 way.

You can see what I mean better in this picture. I added an attachment thingy, I'm sure there is a name for it, but it escapes me.

Today Ladie had a bath, so he is all fluffy and pretty. Forgot to take a picture of him. He is always funny after his baths, he runs around the apartment like a wild dog.

I took my car in to get a tire checked today. It was no good, don't remember what they said was wrong with it, but they showed it to me and it wasn't fixable. So I got a pair of new tires since the other front one was worn too. Not really what I had planned, but I guess I needed them.

I did get some cards to list on etsy done this weekend, just no pictures taken yet.

Sewing time has been limited by my lack of energy. But I did do a special order for my friend Aime, just need to get the snaps on and it will be done. I made 2 so that I can list one too.

My fingerless mitts pattern is coming along. I am knitting up the second one and putting the finishing touches on the pattern. Hopefully I can post it in the near future.

Thank you all for the well wishes. I talked with Grandma last night and she is still herself, my aunt said she is doing well, a little weaker but overall doing ok. She also shared that if her eyes are closed, you shouldn't assume she's sleeping because she is often still listening.

All my family members are telling Grandma all my secrets....when we were there Dad told her about my guy (I think she was teasing me about him a little)and then my sister-in-law told her about my online business; I wasn't holding those things back from her, but in the time I didn't think they were things that we needed to talk about.

My guy is in Texas working right now, he is slotted to get sent back to Lousianna as soon as they have jobs to do, but apparently they haven't been quite as busy as they were before Christmas. He will likely be gone until the weather up here is nice enough for construction projects start again, so at least until the middle-end of March.

I have been knitting and designing a pair of fingerless gloves. I hope to put the pattern on here or ravelry or somewhere, well see how well they turn out.

Life just speeds along doesn't it? Until you find a speed bump.

Grandma went on hospice last week on Thursday. Dad, Helen and I drove up to see her. She is doing well. She is alert and still has her personality, her spunk.

She told me that she wanted me to find that special person in my life. Dad told her about Chad. She told me to take good care of him. And that I deserved a good man.

She apologized for not being able to spend more time with me but she always thought about me. She told me that I had been dealt a lot of bad things in my life and that I didn't deserve them. But those things are that made me me. Where and what I be without them?

She reminded me to never forget where my power source comes from. If you (dear readers) don't know where your power source comes from, you're in for a bumpy road.

She kept talking about writing down what happens, she told me she had a drawer full of journals in her desk, and not one had one stroke in it. She has so many stories she has never told. All those stories will be gone. She asked me to tell her a story about my work and I really couldn't think of anything that was worth telling, I know I have had stories to tell from my work, but why couldn't I think of ANY one?

When I was younger I dreamed of being a writer, maybe I need to do that. But what to write about?

Some days I just get so tired of helping other people. Why do people have to be so needy, so many just expect the world to take care of their problems. Some days I would just like to shake them and tell them to wake up and figure their stuff out. Especially the ones that Choose to be the way they are. The system is there for those who Need it, but the Users of the system are the ones that make me angry.

She was so happy to see me. She didn't want me to leave and truely I didn't want too either, but we had to come back home.

Really I didn't want to say goodbye.

My brother and his wife and boys are going to go see her today, they will spend tonight up there and come back tomorrow. Matt somehow convinced Mom to go with him. I'm afraid what she and Grandma will say to each other. I know Grandma has a speach ready for her. Sometimes I wonder what happened when Mom was young, what made her the way she is? Everything that happens in our lives makes us who we are....what happened to her. Maybe someday she will decide to make her children apart of her life again and I can try to figure it out.

Drove to Omaha by myself and didn't get lost. Bought a serger, learned to use it a little.

I don't remember my new years resolutions for last year....were they the resolutions that lead to the formation of girls nights?

This year I don't have any specific resolutions other than the typical:

loose weight (already started on Weight Watchers and bought a scale yesterday)

Several co workers did, and a nephew had a little boy (Sebastian)

I would like to live with my Guy. Further our relationship. I would like to have a 'sewing/craft room'.

A lonely home....

Well, look who came to visit for a few days....

Diesel beat and chewed the toys into line, a few are now in the repair basket..

They showed up Sunday morning. Would have been here saturday, but the weather was not cooperative.

They left this morning. And last I heard will be heading back to Lousianna for an undetermined length of time....where is that chocolate again???

Now ladie and I are left to our own devices....

Perhaps I will get the motivation to sew, knit, cross stitch or anything soon. Thank goodness for medications....now work faster already.

So that means that after today, the days will begin to be longer and the nights will get shorter again, so more sunshine!!!!!! Gotta love that.

So on to some sad news, last week the Guy called to tell me that He won't be home for Christmas. I was pretty disappointed and He knew I would be. But I do understand why He can't come home....work stuff sucks. He did tell me that He would be home for New Years.....and He better be.

On to Christmas things, I have the gifts for Helen and the Girls done....I can't wait to hear what they think of them. I will post pictures after they have all been given. I have most of my stocking stuffers done, but I need to count them and maybe go to the dollar store and menards. I really hate trying to figure out what to get for the mens stocking stuffers or men in general. What I did for the Guy is ready too....of course pictures later.

So I have no pictures for today....sorry, I could have taken some earlier, but my energy level fadded after about 1. Luckily I only have to work 2 days (Mon and Tues) and then I am off!!!! I don't have to go back to work until the next Tuesday!!!! No real plans other than relaxing and celebrating. I do have a Drs appointment next Monday with my new Dr as my old one just up and left.....I hate getting to know new Drs, but I do think my medications need to be increased some more.

I hope to post again this week....but if I don't get back....Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!

We had more snow today....and its so cold that the snow squeaks and moans when you drive on it. I want spring!!!! or at least no wind chill.

Girls night out was Wednesday. We went to Camilles, had some good things to eat, I had their squash soup and it was delicious! We had a little knitting/crafting time and fun chatting. Its hard to keep up with everyone since we are all going so many different directions this time of year.

I am busily working on Christmas gifts. I am making sewn gifts for several people and am thinking if I have time I want to make some fabric grocery bags to use for packaging.

I have been thinking about this whole Christmas gift thing. I try to make things for gifts, but I also purchase items, especially when I can get a great deal. For example, at work the gift shop was having a 50% off sale on sea pals that are kind of like webkinz and I picked up one for each of my nephews. So those are what they are getting for Christmas, but I plan to make fabric totes to gift them in that have their names on them.

I remember when I was growing up we didn't have alot of extra things. Alot of our decorations were handmade. Popcorn strung on strings, red/green paper chains, little figures, old glass balls to hang on the tree. We always got something for Christmas. But alot of the time it was a new pair of PJ's and one or two toys and a stocking full of little fun toys, useful items, maybe an apple or orange, and some candy.

I see people talk about not being able to spend several 100$ on each of their kids and I wonder what happened to the true Christmas meaning and spirit.

The truth of the matter is that our country is in a recession. How do we get out of a recession? I don't know the answer to that. But maybe our economy was over inflated. It just goes to the Walmartization our country has evolved to. We want everything cheaply but at the best quality. I'll be honest, I wanted (still want) that too.

But maybe we need to take our country backwards a little and expect less.

I had a good weekend in Omaha and even caught a few pictures...

New Bags....

I had a request from a lady on Ravelry to make some gift box sized bags. She is giving some hand knit items and wanted to package them in a unique way and have it be a way for the receiver to store them in the off season. I think its a great idea and these are what I came up with.

This bag won't stand up like this when filled, but I thought it provided a good picture of the width.

They are interfaced and have a zipper in the top with a handle to be able to grab it off the shelf.

The larger size is 4 1/2 x 8 1/2 x 15, the black/sepia tone bag.

This is a picture of the smaller bag posed on top of the gift box it is based on. It measures 7 1/4 x 4 x 11.

They are lined with cotton fabric. This photo actually shows one of my sweaters in it. The sweater isn't handknit if you are wondering....thats on my to do list.

I made pumpkin spice scones today. They were yummy. The recipe is from http://pinchmysalt.com/2007/10/18/pumpkin-spice-scone-recipe/ The only thing I did different was no raisins and I accidentally mixed the brown sugar in with the flour, so I added a little more brown sugar to the milk mixture. And instead of the frosting she listed I made a powdered sugar/milk frosting with a little pumpkin pie spice mixed in.

Someone else thought they smelled good too. I bravely protected them from him.

Here comes the Holidays...

Less than a week to Thanksgiving. I have been asigned to make green bean casserole this year. And was told to make enough so everyone gets some as it is one of those things that we always run out of. I borrowed a catering pan from my sister and her hubby, now just have to fill her up.

It snowed last night and it stuck around this time, everything is white, except the roads which are all icky already. Ladie loves the snow, he likes to eat the snow clumps and he likes to sniff the snow, it must smell different.

I've been busy sewing and doing needlepoint. No pictures though. The needlepoint is a Christmas gift and even though I don't think that the person it is for reads this very often, no point in chancing it.

This picture is from last year, but I think he really enjoyed that doggie treat.

I just finished Book #4 in the the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. And I need the next one, not just need, but NEED! I don't know why these are so addicting, but I have a feeling that I am not the only one. I discovered 2 groups on ravelry (search for sookie) devoted to this book series AND there is a HBO series based on it too. Now just to find someone with HBO who will record it for me.....Anyone willing to volunteer????

When playing fetch yesterday, we discovered a new way to play tug of war.

Unfortunately the chair would have won if I hadn't intervened (it was about to topple on someone)

This is my newest project, I am experimenting with some stitches out of my favorite embroidery book, Erica Wilson's Embroidery Book. This is turkey work. It is generally trimmed short to make the pile look like velvet. I like how it looks made this way.

Have done some cutting out for some Christmas bags today. I am still working on my new design, have gotten a few suggestions from one of my testers that is perculating in my mind.

Daylight Savings time is not our friend.....it is 6:50 and it is pitch black out. Yuck!!!!

Look who came to visit me this weekend. This is a tired dog after the dog park. They always say a tired dog is a good dog.

No real knitting this last weekend, I did do some embroidery, but not real thrilled with the results, so I may rip it out. Have done a little sewing, but no photos to show.

Today is election day and here are a few facts about voting....

Less than 90 years ago women were getting jailed for wanting to vote. Less than 140 years ago African Americans were not allowed to cast a ballot, and it wasn't until 1965 that the Voting Rights Act was passed.

If you haven't and you still can, please vote for your canidates and the issues you believe in. If you don't you can't complain about it later.

Pincushion Swap!!!

I joined a pincushion swap on Ravelry and I received my swap package today.....

It included 2 pincushions in lovely colors....of course polka dots on orange background, how much better can you get?

It also included some lovely tastes of Oregon in the form of chocolate, apple butter, jam and scented lotion.

This little bugger was stealing out of my bird feeder. Its amazing how flexible they are. And I'm suprised how good these pictures turned out.

I made pumpkin bread today, it smelled and tasted great.

It has pumpkin, pumpkin pie spice, and nutmeg in it along with the normal bread stuff. I think I need an electric knife though. Christmas is right around the corner (hint for family and people in Omaha).

Have been busy yet again this week. Work was Crazy Crazy Busy.....hope it subsides a little this next week.

Been busy with projects at home. I have been having fun making pincushions (no pictures...sorry) and working out in my head Christmas Gifts. I have some stocking stuffers bought but want to make some things as well. Haven't really thought about actual gifts for specific people yet.

Today Ladie tried to jump on the bed and he missed and was whining quite a bit so I took him into the Emergency Vet Clinic, about $240 later, he just strained some muscles. They did an xray and his hips, pelvis, spine and knees looked fine (that was only one xray....luckily only one as it was 1/2 of the cost). They gave him some medication a shot and pills to start giving him tomorrow. He is on no play restriction but hasn't been acting like he wants to anyways. He can't jump on the couch or pretty much anything at this point.

I have finished a pair of socks AND I took a picture. I actually took the picture last week, but I'm posting it now....oh well..

And my socks in progress are here....

Still sewing away on my new bags....need to do some testing of them, hopefully will find a few volunteers Monday at Project Night.

Its the middle of October...what happened to September???? So that means Halloween is around the corner, then Thanksgiving and then Christmas!!! How does this happen every year?....I plan to work on my Christmas list all year....but I don't think I have completed more than one item for Christmas gifts since last year....eak!

Last year and again this year I am taking part in the Holiday KAL/CAL. I am offering a prize and plan to post my knitting/crochetting progress on there for gifts. I am working on a new design for bags. No pictures yet, maybe I will get one taken tomorrow. It is a design that I am excited about, Amy actually gave me the original design by something that she was working on and I am finally getting around to making it up. I can see many more uses for this design....doggie carry bags, gift bag, mini purse....and many more.

Well back to the sewing machine.

New Projects

These are the cards from the September Card Class....

I ordered a sock monkey stamp set and can't wait to get it. Seems like the delivery time is a little slow this month since the class was on the 5th or 6th.

Here is my newest project I have been working on. The pattern is Simplicity #4074 View F. I added pockets and they gape a little but I really need pockets if I am going to wear this at work.

Turned out pretty good. I have been developing a better relationship with my serger, I am thinking I may not throw her out the window after all.

I have made a top in the same blue fabric as well, I don't think I like the pattern as well as this one, it was Simplicity 4076 view B. I don't have a photo of it, but will take one the next time I take pictures.

If I had a more time I would get more done.....

I have been knitting, I finished my current pair of socks, but need to take a picture later today. I have started a new pair of sockies....working on that pattern.

I have several fabrics and patterns for work clothes that I plan on making.....but need to make mock ups to make the adjustments. Oh if only I had more time in my day.

I am currently dying some yarn and making new stitch markers so check out my etsy store this week. The yarns are more 'fall' inspired and I'm working on writing down the recipies so maybe they will be reproduceable.....maybe....

I do have some more 'fall' knitting bags in process but doubt they will be completed this weekend.

I'll try to post more pictures later...

Puppy Playdate and Thrift Store Finds!

Introducing Penny. Meghan's puppy. She is a Brittany Spaniel. And just a wiggle worm and bundle of energy. This is her playing with a goose toy that I brought. She just fell in love with it, so I had to make sure she got to keep it. So despite the fact that it is a squeaky toy, I left it there for her....every puppy needs a squeaky toy. ;0)

Here is the monster himself. He loves to be able to run in the space and go 'hunting'

Dog Versus Toad. Guess who won, the toad obviously. Ladie just followed him around, but Penny decided to lick him. She got a little sick, so probably will not do that again.

Ladie and Penny did pretty well together until later in the day. For most of the day Ladie was able to 'ignore' the little wiggly thing, but she was trying to play with him later in the day and I think Penny missed the growling warning. So the day ended a little unhappily, but no one was seriously injured.

Meghan and I went to the local thrift store. And look what I found! A 1948 Singer. It needs to be serviced and some of the wires fixed. But it works! I can't wait to hear what the sewing machine people say about it. I paid less than $34 for it!!!! I looked at these on ebay and most are going for about $200, not that I plan on selling it, it will be my backup sewing machine in case my bernina goes on the blitz.

Also found this cool sleeve ironing board. This is what it looked like when I bought it. See how dirty and stained the fabric is?

This is how I fixed it. I took off the fabric and batting and replaced it with new clean cotton batting and cotton fabric. I think I did a pretty good job on it.

And it comes pretty much completly apart. Way cool for storage.

I did do some knitting yesterday and Meghan cast on her first pair of SOCKS!!!!!! Who hoo!!!

I seem to be putting alot of things in 'safe' places lately....unfortunately that means that they are safe from Me! So just a little frustrating. First I had to search for about 1/2 an hour for batteries for the camera, then I of course found it where I had looked at least 2 times prior.....ugh....

Then I needed my ruler, I haven't found the one I wanted, but I did find one I could use.....then I needed to find my quart ziplock bags....still haven't found those....so I thought I would post here and maybe they will just appear when I am done and less frustrated.....or tomorrow after work I will pick up some more at HyVee.

Here is some of the alpaca that Meghan dyed and carded up for me.....it was for an exchange for some sock yarn I dyed up....Ladie and dog toy provided for scale....

These have become this.....not done with all of it yet, but I have one bobin full and the second is almost full....probably have enough to fill another 1/2 bobbin....haven't decided if I want to 2 or 3 ply it

Now where are those ziploc baggies....I know I had them earlier this week.....

Garden Update

Sorry no pictures in this post. I have gotten a few ripe tomatoes from both the grape and bush plant. I have a ton still on the bush to ripen and a few on the grape plant. But the grape plant has developed a few new flowers.

My eggplant has 3 eggplants that are slowly growing and many more blooms in different stages of developing. I think I may be inundated with eggplant when they start to get bigger. I am thinking I better start to look up recipies for eggplant, let me know if you have any favorite recipies.....Thank goodness I like eggplant.

My pea plant is about done. I have had a handfull of peas from it, but next year I need to start them earlier because they are supposed to do better in the cooler weather.

My lettuce has done poorly too, but I think I should have planted it earlier as well. I think I may try to restart it in later August.

My eggplant was attacked by ants about a week ago I noticed. When I got too looking closer, I had a HUGE infestation of aphids(?). They are little, the size of a pen/pencil tip and light green almost white. So I have been treating it with insecticidal soap. I found a recipie on the internet, 1 gallon water to 2 Tablespoons of dishsoap. It seems to be working, but I am still getting some new aphids. I am treating it every other day.

Knitting update. I almost have my current socks done. Just need to work on them a little. Maybe I will work on them this week.

Been Busy

Been kind of busy the past few weeks. Spent the 4th in Omaha, had fun but time went too fast as usual. We saw some fireworks and enjoyed the pool and hot tub. Ladie got to meet Diesel, they both lived through the experience so that is good. Ladie didn't like it when Diesel came to play with me, but I think it will resolve with some time spent together.

This weekend I worked on taking pictures so I can get my etsy shop updated. I have added several sets of stitch markers. I have some more pictures of bags to edit and get listed.

I need to get back into sewing, but just haven't found the motivation....I know once I sit down and start I will get going again, its just the initial starting. I think I will blame it on the weather....just too hot. I have a new design bouncing around in my head, but as usual it needs a little more time and I need to make time to sit down and play with it. I will be making a dog bed for Diesel soon, but first I am waiting for the dimensions so I know it will fit where it will be going, unfortunately I was told I can't make it pink :0(

No real knitting progress to report my current socks are stalled as I haven't made time to work on them. And Meghans sleeves are very slowly coming along, maybe I'll have them ready for her by the time it snows.....luckily they are long sleeves.

I did spin up some lovely wool this weekend. I have 2 spools that need to be plied together when they have had a day or 2 to rest.

My garden is growing wonderfully. I forgot to take pictures yesterday when I was working on them, but my eggplant is growing, it is about 5-6 inches long now. I have some grape tomatos that have turned red. Tons of tomatos on my bush plant, one is starting to turn color. My pea plants are doing ok, they are starting to bloom again, so maybe I will get a few more off them. My other eggplant have 2-3 blooms on it but no baby eggplants yet. My lettuce is sad looking, I moved it so it would get more shade from the bush tomato plant, but it is pretty scraggly looking. My mint is growing great now. I want to try to make some sun tea with it, but haven't tried it yet.

I took these pictures last night. I have eggplant growing on the japanese eggplant and one flower and at least one more bud growing.

Here is the Satin Beauty Eggplant. It has one bud that hasn't opened yet, but the plant itself is growing well.

Here are my bush tomatos. There are 5 or 6 in this bunch of tomatos and there is another bunch starting to develop. Not sure how much more they will grow, but I should have plenty of tomatos for me and maybe too many for me.

Chocolate mint is growing well.

Snow pea pods are doing well too.

Here is a volunteer marigold from my marigolds from last year. I have another one or 2 in my bush tomato pot.

No pictures of my grape tomato, it is pretty spindly and sad looking. It only has about 5 little tomatos on it. My flowers are doing well too, but would probably be doing better if I were better about dead headding them.

I am getting ready for my camping weekend. I was able to find some 100% deet at scheels.....hopefully that will keep the evil bugs away. Plus I am taking zinc, I read that it is supposed to make bugs not like you, but I've already had a few bug bites this past week. :(

I have been knitting on my latest sock, am almost done with my first sock, just have to decide how long to make the cuff.

I think Meghan and I are ready for our dyeing. Last weekend I spent most of sunday at her house skeining up a bunch of yarn. We made 60 (?) skeins of about 23 yards each and got most of them mordanted, so things should be all ready for tomorrow, just heat and throw in. We are also doing some indigo dyeing and I am taking a couple tee shirts to throw in there that have stains on them.

I've been on a low motivation spree the last few weeks. Its amazing, but I haven't touched the sewing machine in probably 3 weeks!!! I even have sewn objects that just need the final touches put on them (snaps and weaving in serged ends) and haven't touched them either!

The first weekend of the month was the Siouxland Renaisance fair. The weather was great! It hasn't had that good of weather for the last 3-4 years at least. The turnout was pretty good, not great, but it was a good number from what I saw.

Last weekend I spent in Omaha, I'm proud to report I didn't get lost getting their or getting home. It was a good weekend, but entailed alot of work. So next time I am there I expect to have.....fun. I will be going back for the weekend of the 4th (can I just turn the calendar ahead and pretend it is here already?)

This weekend, so far I have done laundry, looked at my sewing machine (and then turned away from her), worked on some stitch markers (don't need much concentration for those) and just got up from a nap.

Tomorrow I am going to my friends house in Parker, we are going to get our dyeing ready for next weekend. We need to reskein the yarn and premordant it, so next weekend, we just need to wet it and throw it in (if it really were that simple). I know she has said what we are going to dye with, but for the life of me, I can't remember what she told me....darn memory.

Next weekend we are having our Mad Dogs event in Parker, so I won't be around yet again. I do have friday and monday off though. But friday I have a Dr appt and so does the monster. Then we are camping that night through Sunday. Monday I will recover, do the camping laundry and who knows what. Then I only work tues and weds, then have a 4 day weekend again (I love vacation time).

Now to the part many of you actually want to see....the pictures of my container garden.

This is a flower I got for Social Work Month from the place that hosted our luncheon in March. Its amazing I haven't killed it and it has actually bloomed since I got it. It is a Kalanchoe. I've never heard of them but they are pretty. When I got it it was covered in flowers. They actually last quite awhile.

Sweet Pea Blooms. I actually have several blooms and hope to have better growth this year even though I have less number of plants overall.

Chocolate Mint....anyone know what I should do so it isn't so spindly (i.e. more leafy)?

I'm loving my bush tomato plant. It already has at least 4 tomatoes growing and maybe more I haven't seen. And tons of flowers. My grape tomato plant is doing ok, but nothing compared to this baby. Next year I think I will be getting 2 of these.....and some carrots and who knows what else?

Plants are growing well, still haven't taken any more pictures. I hope to do pictures soon, life has just been so busy.

I started spinning the orange/yellow wool/silk/angelina blend that Meghan let me blend up on her drum carder last halloween. It is spinning up very nicely.

I finished my latest pair of sockies and started my next pair of socks.

Meghan and I traded UFO projects wednesday night. I took a pair of sleeves that she needs knit up and she took my angel cross stitch project that has been lanquishing in my stash forever. Never thought about it, but maybe I should have taken a 'before' picture.....oh well.... I will get started on Meghans sleeves this weekend. I need to frog what she has done and start over adding some different yarn.

Next weekend is the renisaince fair. I need to work on getting my things ready for it. It is also Imagine event at work. I'm thinking I will have a better time at the Ren Fair, the Imagine event will have over 30,000 people their!!!! Yuck!!!

Last weekend I had a lovely date with a guy from Omaha. Hope to have another soon ;0)

Odds and ends....

May 25 is National Tap Dance Day.....at least according to http://library.thinkquest.org/2886/may.htm so go out there and tap dance away!!!! Or just have a cup of coffee with the morning news.

I finished my current pair of sockies yesterday, need to take pictures. Am still wanting to modify the pattern, so will make another pair. The nice thing about these is they use up small bits of leftover yarn. The just finished pair weigh 1 oz!!!! and that includes the wooly nylon i added to the cuff to help improve the elasticity.

My garden is doing well, I now have 4 pea plants coming up (i swear i saw one growing yesterday), lots of lettuce and everything else is doing well. I'll take pictures later today hopefully.

What a week

It has been quite a week here.

Last Monday, I had a horrible day at work, the worst I have had since I started there 4 years ago. I knew I should have done everything myself, but I didn't...I trusted someone else....and they didn't do what they were supposed to.... so we had to start over pretty much.....ggrrrr

Then the rest of the week flew by...busy at work....when it wasn't busy at work, I was trying to get my office stuff done like meeting minutes and such....

Saturday I went out to do some errands....just a few, go to the Post Office, Staples for ink, Library to drop off some books that were due, and go do a little shopping..... Well I got to the Post Office. Then I went to staples, after wandering around a while in there, I bought my ink. Went out to my car......and.....it wouldn't Start!

Ok now about 2 weeks ago, it started acting funny, turning over slower, but only some of the time. So I called the shop then, they had me bring it in.....and of course it started perfctly there.....ugg

So on Saturday, I called the shop and got the tow truck, they towed it in and it turned out to be my starter (which is what I had guessed) which luckily was under warranty. Thank goodness for warranties. They actually got it fixed on Saturday.

This is stuff men are supposed to take care of, I try telling Ladie that, but he just looks at me like.....cookie???.....lol ....See....there he is agian.....

I also got my garden planted, 2 tomatoes, 2 eggplants, lettuce and snap peas....and a few flowers. I never knew that egg plants could grow in containers, but I got the book, Bountiful Containers, and they say that they can......I can't wait to see if they are right, I love Baked Eggplant! with Ranch dip.....MMMMMM

No garden pictures yet, but maybe next time.

Knitting content.....I am working on a new pattern for sockies.....kind of like you buy in the store, but hand knit and more comfortable......I have to wear some type of socks on my feet at work....

I wish I could say I took this picture. But it is a picture they let you 'play' with on picnik.com. Its a photo editing site that you can use kind of like photoshop, its free and you don't have to download it. If you want to you can purchase a subscription and you get more features, but I think I will play with the free features for awhile and see if I like it.

This picture actually looked very different when I started with it. Here is the begining photo. I was able to change it into the above photo with less than a half hour of playing on the site.

I've been playing with the serger and it has made sewing finished seams so much easier.

I love this pattern it is from Vogue Knitting the Ultimate Sock Book. I would say this isn't a book for an absolute new sock knitter, but it is a great resource and has some great patterns as well as helping you design your own socks.

I hope everyone is enjoying the tutorial on the foot. I did have one suggestion to use a plastic bag and then use the duct tape. It would be water resistant then. So you could use it for blocking/drying socks. I still don't know if I would use it for that. I like to use my bent wire hangers for drying socks that need blocking. The air flow helps them dry faster.

My sewing machine broke Friday Night, so I took it to the magic fixers at Heirloom Creations. They fixed it and cleaned her up and adjusted the tension. Apparently their was a wire that was disconected and they resodered it on the other side of the motor where it wouldn't be disconected again.

I bought a serger. I would have liked to buy one at Heirloom Creations, but the $900 machine that would have suited my needs was out of the budget. I did purchase one on ebay, so am hoping that it is ok. It ships direct from the manufacturer and it is a known brand, Yamata. Its more known in China, but is manufactured in Florida. It has a rolled hem and overstitch capabilities.

I can't wait for spring to really start. It snowed here last Thursday, it is all melted now, but it is supposed to get into the 50's and 60's this week. Hopefully it will not be windy.

Duct Tape Foot Tutorial

Duct Tape Foot Tutorial

First find a willing victim…err….volunteer. Here is my friend Meghan along with my faithful assistant, Ladie. I plyed her with offers of caffiene to help me.

You will need an old sock or two that fit’s the volunteer. This sock will be cut off your foot in the end. Other supplies needed are duct tape, fiberfill and safety scissors. I have made these on myself so you do not need a volunteer unless you are trying to make a different size foot dummy.

First, put the sock on.

Then start to layer the duct tape on the foot. The pieces of the duct tape should be only about 5 inches in length. The first layer should be put on vertically. Do not cover the toes at this point. But don’t forget the bottom of the foot. Overlap the sides of the tape. It is not pertinent that you cover 100% of the sock/foot on this layer, but try to get it covered to the height you are desiring.

Second layer you will start to layer the duct tape horizontally. In the pictures you will see I have used a different color to demonstrate. In this layer you want to cover the toes and cover the whole foot, overlaping the edges. Up to a fairly even top. Be careful to not wrap the duct tape too tightly.

The third layer you do a horizontal layer again. I have again demonstrated with a new color. This layer you want to make sure you cover the whole foot including the toes. This is the final layer.

Meghan was a little concerned at this stage. Luckily it came off without any loss of blood or toes.

Next you will carefully cut the duct tape foot off. Be sure to use safety scissors, you don’t want to cut your or your volunteers foot/leg. I cut down the back side of the foot all the way down to the bottom of the heel and then ease out the foot out.

Do not cut it off this way….

To tape the cut edges, I use a piece of tape on the inside and outside vertically. You can also add more horizontal pieces of tape to secure the edges.

Now you will want to lightly stuff the foot with fiberfill or your preferred stuffing material. You do not want to stuff it too firmly or too lightly. If it is too firm it is hard to get your socks on and off it. If it is stuffed too lightly it won’t be firm enough. Stuff it up to the top of the leg. The right amount of stuffing is based on your preference and is something you will most likely figure out after you start using it. I discovered my first pair was stuffed too firmly so they are hard to use.

When you get to the top of the leg, use pieces of duct tape to close off the leg, laying them across the opening until it is evenly closed off.

Now you have a duct tape foot dummy.

You can use it however you may want. I like to put my hand knit socks on there to photograph them.

Here is Meghan with her pair of new duct tape feetsies. She wasn’t sure what we were doing when she volunteered for this, so she was a good sport and the enticement of coffee worked well. Now we just need to get her to finish a pair of socks so she can use them to model the socks.

Meghan came over last weekend and let me make a pair of duct tape feet dummies. I have the photos and just need to sit down and type it out. I'm sure everyone will be glad to hear Meghan still has 2 feet and was not injured in the process. I hope to get it typed up in the next few days.

I contacted the maker of the drum carder that I have and they are going to mail me the assembly and user instructions. I was thinking I would have to buy them which I had no problem doing.

I finished my first new design, no pictures yet as I am rearranging my living room so I can set up a fairly dedicated photo area instead of using the kitchen table. I am also hoping to purge a few items.

Drum Carder Arrived!!!

My drum carder arrived today. It is a clemes & clemes. It looks like the company hasn't made them for a while but may be starting to again. I haven't started to try to put it together yet, but will this weekend. I wanted to put a finish on it first, so it needs to dry. It has no instructions, but I think I will ask the original maker if they would sell me a copy of them.

I also just heard that my shipment of doorprizes and items for goody bags have arrived at the lady setting up SeaSocks '08. I sent them 140 handstamped cards and 3 knitting bags. I wish I could go on the cruise, but maybe next year.

Meghan was the fearless volunteer that will let me coat her foot in duct tape. We have not set up the photo shoot date, but keep an eye out for that tutorial.

I also accidentally won a drum carder on Ebay. I actually didn't expect to win it, as it was only at $219. which included shipping and insurance. I haven't gotten it yet, but I can't wait!!! This is my current sock in progress. But the cool thing is that white tube like thingy that it is in. A friend made that for myself and a few other friends. It is so cool and works great. I bet I could store 2 socks in progress in it. Thanks Aime and John!!!

This is some of my most recent handspun yarn. The base wool is from brown sheep roving and dyed with jacquard acid dyes and then I spun it up. No idea on the WPI or yardage. I have some more, but no pictures yet.

Ladie with his new most favorite toy. It isn't actually a dog toy, it is a halloween decoration that he found. I figure it is ok that he play with it as I supervise him really well when I let him play with it. I always know when it is his favorite toy because he actually brings it to me to play with him with it.

Ok this should make up for my lack of posts. I am hoping to do a tutorial on how to make a duct tape foot dummy in the near future, but have yet to find a willing vict...um...volunteer.

Val Day and another snowstorm

Well this weekend I went to Val Day in Kalamazzo Michigan. It was a fun event, but the long car ride was not my idea of fun. I went with Jamie from to help him to vend their. Not sure if I was much help, but I did sell a few of his feastware mugs. I was able to do a little shopping and picked up some clearance yarn and wool/rayon/silk roving from ursula's, sorry no pics.

Coming home we had the fun of driving through a snow storm, but it ended at about the michigan state line, then it was just windy and coollllddddd.

I took today off to make sure I could recover if I needed too. I slept in a little, but I don't feel horrible for spending 24 hours in a vehicle in less than 72 hours.

I did get a good start on my next pair of socks, the pattern is Sydney, it is an advanced pattern and to make it more complicated, I am knitting 2 at a time on one circular, so I have completed the toes and 2 1/2 repeats of the chart. Can't wait to see it done. Sorry no pics yet again.

Today the mailman brought me a package from my Ravelry Mitten Exchange partner. It had a great pair of mittens and an extra skein of yarn and a needle gauge with a ruler. And just in time for another snowstorm with below zero weather.

Frustration and Etsy Updates

I have been trying to work up a new design, but I think I am being zipper stupid. I know how to insert a zipper, but do you think I can insert a zipper and have the bag come out just the way I want it? Of course not or I wouldn't be blogging about it.

So here are my two attempts at new designs. The first one is a perfect fit for a yarn cake, wasn't my intention, but I think I kind of like it and see how it might be useful. The second one isn't quite right, I think part of it is how I put it together. Well back to the drawing board. Let me know if you have any suggestions for the perfect knitting bag, because that is my ultimate goal.

Sock Class!

We had our first sock class last Wednesday. I think everyone got at least 1/2 way through their sock. I expect many will have actually finished their sock by the next class. I'm glad I reserved my community room for the class, it was comfortable and had plenty of space for the 5 of us. Everyone agreed the smallest size is most likely sized for a doll, but the medium and large sizes are more for baby sizes. This project is a great use for left over sock yarn bits, I think the medium size takes less than 1/4 ounce per sock. Well here are some pictures from class.

Yesterday I was taking out the trash and found by the dumpster an eliptical exercise machine, I checked it out and the only thing wrong with it was it needed new batteries!!! So I promptly brought it in which was not an easy task, but well worth it. I haven't used it yet, figure I am pretty sore already, but will start using it this week. I need to figure out how to fit it into my apartment.

Have also been trying to organize my fabric for my business, I have an amazing amount of fabric....wow. I need more shelves or something. Between the fabric, fiber, yarn and completed items that are for sale, or waiting to be listed for sale, I think I need a bigger apartment. Well maybe someday.

Crazzzzyyyy Days

Went shopping at the mall last night. Just to let everyone know, I avoid the mall like the plaque. But this weekend is Crazy Days, so I decided I needed to check it out and try to get a few deals, I always need work clothes. So I went to old navy first and found tons of great deals, but only 2 pairs of pants that I thought looked decent on me and a cute tan wool coat. One of the pairs of pants there were only 3.99....yup thats right 3.99! And the coat was 19.99! Super Deal.

Then I went to JCPennys. There I actually made a huge haul. Four pairs of pants, one shirt, two sweaters and a cute aqua purse (think very bright). All for about $80! The pants were all about 10 and the tops varied between 7 and 9 and the purse was like 12.

Now I just have to hem all the pants....:0(.....I don't know why it is, I have no problem hemming pants for my coworkers, but really hate doing it for myself.

As for knitting content, I am working up the pattern for my sock knitting class the next 2 Wednesdays. When I get it all typed up and proofed, I will post it. I was hoping to figure out how to make it into a PDF, but I will figure that out later. Oh the pattern is a baby sock pattern in 3 sizes, since I don't have a baby or have ever had a baby, I hope the sizing is realistic....cross your fingers.

Happy New Year! I stayed home last night and stayed warm. It's darn cold here, going to be -10 tonight I think the news said.

Today I worked on more knitting bags, check out my shop for bags that are done. I will be adding more this week.

I made no new years resolutions other than I'm not going to make any new years resolutions. ;0) I never keep them anyways.

Wow That was a long time....

Wow, its been a long time since I posted. Well, earlier this month I got a doozy of a sinus infection, 2 courses of antibiotics later, I finally feel human again.

Then Christmas Knitting and Christmas stuff took over.

Then Christmas Eve, my computer died.....:0(.....so the 26th I bought a new laptop. So setting that up has been interesting, but I think I have everything mostly back to normal and even have my wireless network set up(which is new too).

til Christmas. I am still working on Bobby's socks. I have sock #1 done and am almost to the heel on the second.

Then I just have to get back to work on the mitts for my ravelry secret exchange partner.

I finished felting Mandy's bag, it is very nice now. I just need to lace the handle and take a photo and fill it with her kitty items. She is getting a cat for Christmas from her parents, so I got her a couple of books and am making some little cat toys.

This Saturday is Yuletide. My local SCA event, so that should be fun. I will be making my pumpkin cheesecake again for it.

First Blizzard of the Winter

I survived the first blizzard of the winter, including the chipping this ice off my car. It was kind of pretty, or as pretty as blizzards can be. Well maybe it was pretty becuase it was saturday and I was able to watch it out the window without have to go out in it.

Sunday night I went to Amy's house for her birthday. Several girlfriends went over and her husband made pizza and yummy chocolate cake. It was quite a bit of fun, we got to chat and have fun. And the pizza was great and the cake was super!

I get to go to conferences for the next 3 1/2 days, I'm so excited, getting paid to not be at work!!!! WooHoo!!!

Christmas Projects:
I have Mandy's felted bag done, I have run it through the washer once, but I am thinking I want to run it through again.

Bobby's socks are coming along, I am almost done with the foot of the first sock, hopefully will get time to work on it at my conference.

I also have to get back to work on my mitten exchange, I have one fingerless mitt done and have cast on the 2nd but need to get to work on it.

I am going to try to finish up these projects before I cast on anything else. But that will be challenging.

Hello. I'm on vacation all this week!!!! Woo Hoo!!

I just updated my etsy shop and will be updating every day this week. I have been sewing and spinning away. And I have broke out the dye pots again, so look for some new handdyed yarn this week.

I will be using this week to relax and get ready for the upcoming holidays. I am assigned to make pumpkin and cherry pie for Thanksgiving. If you have a good (and easy) pie crust recipie I would love it! I'm not sure if I am going to make the pie crust or buy it....we'll have to see how the week goes.

My fingerless mitt for my pal on ravelry. Mitt one DONE! Mitt two, just started.

This is my random stripe sock yarn working up. Sock 1, almost done, finishing ribbing. Sock 2, foot portion about 1/4 done.

Now THIS is a Batt O' Wool. My friend Meghan let me try out her drum carder last weekend. This is a ton o'wool. It is also about 1/4 silk and a touch of angelina.

Now, I am making squash for supper, how long do I bake it? Anyone?
